Write about an adventure you would like to go on.

Image
Prompt Response: One adventure I want to go on is a trip to Japan. I want to explore Tokyo and Kyoto. Japan has a bunch of cool stuff and good food that I want to experience. I don't know exactly what I want to do there but I might sightsee and eat sushi and ramen. I think it would be a cool experience, but it does cost a lot of money so I will have to save up. Summary: Today we analyzed a poem and listened to a few presentations. Reflection: I think all people should take at least one big trip like that in their lifetime just to experience something other than home.

Describe something you will never fully understand.

Image
Prompt Response: I will never fully understand how the universe works. There are so many factors and crazy scientific theories that make no sense to me. I don't think I will ever understand wormholes or string theory and stuff like that. I'm fine with not knowing for the rest of my life as long as it won't affect me either way. I will leave the crazy science and math to the NASA people and geniuses. Summary: Today, we presented our origin myth posters. I presented mine on Sky Fox and the Four Flames, the myth I made up. Reflection: I think that exploring the science of the universe could be useful, but it won't affect my everyday life so much.

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response: I wish I had more athletic ability. I am pretty athletic compared to normal people, but some kids even younger than me are incredible. I wish I had their ability to perform in sports like baseball and football. If I could naturally throw 95 mph like some kids my age, I would be one of the best pitchers in the nation. I hope that I am still talented enough and work hard enough to go to college for sports. Summary: Today in class, I finished my Adobe Express origin myth poster.  We also watched the lakeside news. Reflection: I think that some people are just born naturally gifted, but it is still possible to overcome them if you work hard enough.

What is the most creative thing you have ever made? Share what it was and explain why it stands out as your best work.

Image
Prompt Response: The most creative thing I have ever made is a homemade mini skate board. I did it in chemistry class last year. Me and my friend would take the back panel off the class calculators and cut them flat. Then we get a paper clip and tape and put it on the bottom of the calc panel. The paper clip must be bent to give bounce so you can do tricks with it. We had a lot of fun with it during class. It was modeled after a TekDek Summary: In class we worked on our own origin myth and made a picture on adobe express. Reflection: I think I am a fairly creative person. I do not always try to find a creative solution to things, but if I think it would be easier than the normal way I will.

Everyone has burning questions about life. Mysteries we wonder about but don’t always have clear answers for. Think about your biggest questions about existence, purpose, or the world around you. Write a blog post where you share at least two of your most burning questions about life and explain why these questions matter to you.

Image
Prompt Response: My first biggest question is "Is there a god?" I wonder this because many people believe in it, but it doesn't make sense logically. I also wonder what happens when you die. Does life just end, or is there an afterlife? Maybe you get reborn into a new body with no memories? I don't know, and it's kind of scary to think about. Summary: In class, we wrote our own origin myths. I almost finished mine. Reflection: I think whatever happens when you die, it will be ok, unless hell is real and you get sent there.

Describe a time you felt completely lost.

Image
Prompt Response: One time I felt completely lost was when I first played football. I had joined because it seemed fun, but I didn't know anything about playing football. I had only ever watched football on TV, so I didn't know any techniques or moves. After a couple of weeks, I started understanding what to do better, but it took over a year to fully understand my responsibilities and techniques. I quit football this spring, but it was fun learning to play and practicing my freshman and sophomore years. Summary: Today, we presented our presentations on the jealous father. I went last and read two slides. Reflection: I think that feeling lost is natural, but it can be easily overcome by finding a group of friends to learn with together.

Analyze how you’ve adapted to the demands of this course over the past week, and evaluate one strength and one challenge you anticipate as we progress, justifying your insights with personal examples.

Image
Prompt Response: Over the past week, I have adapted to the amount of reading that has been required. One strength I anticipate is my ability to write well and for a long time. One weakness I anticipate is my inability to focus well while reading a long story or passage. I think I wrote well for my DBQ and LEQ on the AP World exam. I struggled to read the whole story when we read about the jealous father in class, though. Summary: Today, we did a quiz on a story we read. It was about how robins were created according to a community a long time ago. Reflection: I think that I have room to improve on my reading comprehension, but I have a strong writing foundation to build off of.

Describe a real-life situation in which jealousy negatively affected a relationship you experienced.

Image
Prompt Response: I used to be friends with a kid I knew from baseball. We were on the same travel team, and we grew up together. We both tried out for an elite baseball team, but only I made it, and he got angry. He said mean stuff about me, and we got in a big fight. I haven't spoken to him in a while, so our relationship has been negatively affected. Summary: Today, we got into groups and worked on the project related to "The Jealous Father". My group had the Conflict Resolution section. Reflection: We read a story, and I learned how can negatively affect a father and son.

Write about a meaningful object or place in your life that carries a story.

Image
One meaningful place in my life is my grandparents' house in North Carolina. It is a cabin on a creek in the Smoky Mountains. I have been going there my whole life, and it is a place that relaxes me and holds great importance for me. My great-grandpa built it a long time ago, and it has been passed down in my family for many years. I have had many holidays and celebrations there, and it holds a meaningful place in my life and that of my family. Summary: Today in class, we learned about the Navajo creation myth and how Begochiddy came to the different worlds and helped the Navajo. Reflection: I learned how the Navajo believed the earth was created, and I also got my picture taken for my student ID.

Write about a time you felt connected to nature, like the kinship in Native American myths.

Image
One time I felt connected to nature was when I was sitting in the creek in front of my grandparents' house. I sat there as the water rushed past me, but I felt strangely calm. The water was cold, but it didn't seem to affect me because I had become used to it after sitting there for a few minutes. Some fish and other animals swam past me and seemed unbothered, which I thought was strange because they usually freak out if I'm near them. I just felt really at peace with the world and one with nature. Summary: Today in class, we learned about the difference between myth, religion, and urban legend, as well as native american culture. Reflection: I learned that native americans are just like us now, and that they can build casinos on tribal land even if it is banned in the state.
